For someone unacquainted with the peculiar scene of sea fishermen mingling with merchants and sightseers, a visit to Gi-din could be an eye-opening experience. This was a waterfront corner of K. City, pulsating with the grandeur and beauty of the Taiwan Strait. Within the harbor, fishing vessels undulated rhythmically with the waves, and the fishermen's raucous howlings traveled through the salty and fish-odored air, all emitting a robust healthiness in the island's bright southern sun.
Like other fishing ports, Gi-din had recently become a hub of activity, with a sturdy vitality to show. As the sun glided gradually toward the distant horizon of the sea, spreading a layer of warm sheen over new and old buildings alike, visitors would arrive in throngs from K. City and other towns farther afield. They were either chic urbanites who liked to enjoy the setting sun while taking a stroll on the beach near the harbor, or gourmets out for a palate-pleasing feast.
